Healthcare in Our Hands (HIOH) is a medical project orchestrated by the Gothenburg branch of Gambiagrupperna, a part of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Future in our Hands (FIOH). Its main focus is clinical development and education of hospital staff.

The goal is to achieve the best possible patient care by using resources available at the relevant hospital. It is envisaged that a team of Swedish doctors and nurses will visit the hospital on a regular basis to educate, create routines and assign different areas of responsibility to the staff. The team will be on site for periods of approximately four weeks to ensure sufficient time for training and support.

Local staff shall be given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new or amended concepts and routines. Local instructors will be educated so they can educate the staff and conduct the development of a local education squad.

The long-term vision is the overall improvement of patient care and the outcomes of medical treatment given, and eventually make local hospitals a more attractive place of work for Gambian doctors and nurses.
